Interviews likely to held 8th June 2012
The Role
The University of Kent are seeking to appoint a researcher to work with Dr Michelle McCarthy on a NIHR School of Social Care Research (SSCR) funded study investigating domestic violence and women with learning disabilities. Little or nothing is currently known about the experiences of women with learning disabilities in relation to domestic violence and this study aims to fill that gap in our knowledge. This study will use a mixed methods design: predominantly semi-structured in-depth interviews (but also focus groups, where appropriate) with a cohort of women with learning disabilities who have current or recent experience of domestic violence; and surveys of women’s refuges, police domestic violence units and social workers involved in adult and child protection and safeguarding in England (to be followed up by interviews of key personnel where possible).
The Person
You will hold a Masters or equivalent in a relevant social science subject along with experience of qualitative and survey research methods. You will have experience of working with people with learning disabilities. You will have experience of systematic data collection and management. You will have the ability to analyse complex data and relate this to the research questions in a creative but disciplined way. You will be able to write clearly and well for academic and professional audiences.
